Under the initiative, UNEP’s higher management will set up a new
organisation called the International Panel for Sustainable Resource
Management, Balazs Gulyas, member of the Hungarian Academy of
Sciences (MTA) and WSF’s managing director, told reporters.
The panel’s objective will be to boost international exchange of
knowledge and best practices on sustainable resource management.
The third WSF is being organised by the MTA in co-operation with
UNESCO and the International Council for Science (ICSU). Chief
patrons of the event are Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom, Jose
Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, UNESCO
Director-General Matsuuro Koichiro and ICSU President Goverdan Mehta.
