Fairytale
three-quarter time
This
Saturday Budapesti Operabál Kft will invite guests to waltz for the 13th time.
The star guest is Richard Clayderman, the "Prince of Romance".
It is
nothing new for the opera ball to have a particular theme. In the past there
has been a Verdi masked ball, a millennium ball and on the tenth anniversary,
the ball of balls featuring the best-known opera and operetta arias. This year
the opera ball will reflect the world of fairytales. The backdrop of the
Hungarian State Opera, already suits the fairytale theme, and the impression
will be enhanced thanks to the decorations. An iceberg, for example, will be
set up in front of the entrance – as a symbol of the glass mountain familiar
from fairy tales.
Figures
from famous fairytales and from history will also support the theme. Guests
should not be surprised to encounter Sissi, Franz Joseph, enchanting fairies or
hussars. Despite the theme, there is no obligation to wear fancy dress: the
organisers are sticking to their dress code of dinner jacket or long evening
dress.
The theme
also influenced the choice of this year’s star guests. The French musician
Richard Clayderman, whom Nancy Reagan once called the "prince of romance",
will enchant guests with his magical piano playing. In addition, fairytale ball
gowns from the most renowned Hungarian designers will be presented in a fashion
show.
Budapesti
Operabál Kft. is increasingly involved in charitable activities. In this spirit
five "Cinderellas" will again be given the chance to take part in the
ball of their lives. In addition, since last year the organisers have also
opened the doors to the older generation: through a lottery, pensioners will be
able to participate in the opera ball’s dress rehearsal and to take a look
behind the scenes. The homeless have also not been forgotten: on the day of the
opera ball the organisers and the Maltese charity service will distribute
Gundel goulash at Blaha Lujza tér. Finally, from the revenue generated,
Operabál Kft. will organise a children’s day at Budapest Zoo in May.
