"Evolution is studied through biological observations and
measurements… the statements of this science can be shown… while
creationism is a theory based on dogma and assumptions, therefore
the two cannot be compared," the statement said.
"It is our conviction that religious belief cannot prove or deny
the scientific theory of evolution, just as religious issues are not
subject to scientific discourse," the document added.
"Darwin’s theory of evolution […] can be considered to have a
sufficient scientific basis and it suitably describes the origin and
development of species," the statement of the Academy added.
The protest was initiated by the Royal Society and is now
supported by the scientific academies of 68 countries.
