Kabul, May 4 (MTI) – Hungary may considerably increase its
military presence in Afghanistan next year, MTI learnt on Sunday,
the second day of Defence Minister Imre Szekeres’ visit to that
On top of the Hungarian unit of over 200 troops currently
serving in Afghanistan, another 60 servicemen will arrive to take
over management of Kabul’s international airport. At least an
additional 50 Hungarian experts are planned to start training two
battalions of the Afghan military at two sites, Szekeres told MTI
following his talks.
A smaller, 12-14-strong operative unit will also be sent to
Kabul or to the western region of the country, the minister added.
