The paper argued that hospitals were currently operating with an
overall 8,500-9,000 physicians nationwide, whereas 11,000 would be
required and said that becoming a doctor was no longer an attractive
opportunity for young people.
Imre Varga, head of the federation of Hungarian hospitals, said
that a "predictable career model" had to be developed and suggested
that doctors’ salaries were much too low and no longer attracted
Romanian or Slovak professionals to take up employment in the
country.
