Two months hard work by students who all have English as a second and sometimes third language culminated at the International School of Budapest this week when they staged an end-of-year musical production called Between the Lines. A New Zealand teacher of Grade 1, Gail Mullon, and a Hungarian teacher of Grades 2 and 3, Silvia Coulbourn, combined to produce the hour-long musical play in English.
The colourful presentation involved fairy-tale characters who change roles, the good guys becoming bad and vice-versa. Mrs Mullon said the students had worked very hard to learn their parts and it was an amazing feat for children so young. The show had sparkled from beginning to end and the teamwork had been excellent.
Families and colleagues assisted in making the production a success. Authentic costumes were bought or sewn for the production, the last of the school year. The use of up-to-date technology in the form of computerised backdrops designed by Robin Mullon and piano accompaniment by Csilla Bosnyák added colour and fun.
