A day before Ryanair held its press conference on Tuesday Wizz Air announced that it will begin services from Debrecen Airport to London Luton on 18 June. The airline will initially offer three weekly flights, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and expects to carry almost 50,000 passengers in the first year.
The expansion came less than a week after Ryanair announced that it will double its capacity out of Budapest. “Instead of driving several hours to the capital, those living in eastern Hungary can now fly from Debrecen and access London for a great value,” Wizz Air CEO József Váradi said. The airline is committed to the region and envisages offering more destinations from Debrecen, Váradi said.
