Government accountability commissioner Gyula Budai has called for an investigation into the privatisation and renationalisation process of Malév, and claimed that former finance minister Péter Oszkó used inside information he gained about the airline to assist the business management of Wizz Air.
Oszkó, who left office in May 2010, was elected as a board member of WA Holding (Wizz Air) in April 2011. According to Wizz Air CEO József Váradi, this company is a separate entity within WA Group and its board never discussed anything relating to Malév.
In his blog Oszkó said he obviously had nothing to do with the collapse of the national airline. “As a member of the board I kept my distance from Malév and tried to assist an internationally successful company, which has a number of ties to Hungary.”
