Of the two literary figures named Moriarty, it’s not Sherlock Holmes’ arch enemy but Jack Kerouac’s On the Road protagonist after whom the band is named. The members – Rosemary Standley, Thomas Puéchavy, Arthur B. Gillette, Stephan Zimmerli, Charles Carmignac and Vincent Talpaert – have French, American and Swiss origins.
Traditional Irish music, mixed with country music and blues, is their source of inspiration played on kazoo, dobro, xylophone and harmonica, plus vocals.
Hungary’s Voler Mouche (left) provides the supporting act with a combination of jazz, lounge, bossa nova and classical music.
