Hundreds of guests gathered to the twang of country music at a reception hosted by the embassy of the United States in Buda Castle on Tuesday, one day ahead of the Fourth of July celebrations marking the 236th anniversary of American independence.
A cowboy-hat-sporting US Ambassador Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis (right) took the occasion to recall the establishment of diplomatic relations between the US and Hungary 90 years ago. The two peoples are connected by the love of liberty and the hope that the foundations of prosperity, respect for human rights and democratic, open and pluralist society can be created the world over, she said.
Recalling Hungary’s contribution to international forces in Afghanistan, Defence Minister Csaba Hende said Hungary is ready to do even more for the preservation of liberty.
