The country’s biggest equestrian festival, the National Gallop (Nemzeti Vágta), will again take place at Budapest’s Heroes’ Square from 14-16 September. The capital’s landmark square will turn into a 6,200-square-metre racetrack where 72 horse riders from all over the country will show off their skills. The draw for the 12 preliminary runs (15 September, 1.30pm) took place on Tuesday, with title defenders Baja being placed in run two, against Gödöllõ, Csabdi, Gyõr-Gyirmót, Hatvan and Komárom. The first two riders will qualify for the five semi-final runs (16 September, 11am) with the final taking place at 6pm right after the charity run of Hungarian celebrities. The usual row of handicraft stands from participating towns and villages will be on 56-osok Square this year instead of Andrássy Avenue. Daily tribune tickets – sold via tex.hu – start at HUF 3,000 (EUR 10.50) while VIP tribune tickets sell for HUF 12,000 (EUR 42) for the Saturday and HUF 15,000 (EUR 53) for the Sunday.
