Trafó inaugurates this Tuesday a series of contemporary circus performances bringing in quick succession Hungarian (Freak Fusion Cabaret), Australian (C!RCA) and Canadian (Les 7 Doigts de la Main) groups until early June.
Billed as variety, burlesque and underground, Freak Fusion Cabaret (pictured) opens the series with what organisers promise is “entirely new and colourful forms of art entertainment” featuring spectacular juggling, acrobatic, trapeze and burlesque dance performances.
They are followed next Thursday and Friday 30 and 31 May and Saturday 1 June by C!RCA, an Australian group whose aim since its creation in 2006 is to move “the heart, mind and soul”. Their show simply called S, apparently inspired by the shape, grammatical functions and sound of the consonant, combines complex acrobatics with music by Finland’s Kronos Quartet.
Letters are replaced by numbers for the final group in the sequence: Canada’s Les 7 Doigts de la Main (The 7 Fingers of the Hand) perform their latest creation, Sequences 8, on 6 and 7 June. The eight performers promise to carry “emotional dynamics to a point of explosion and propulsion” through a mix of acrobatic dance and theatre.
