In the past four years the government has strengthened the police force and now there is a presence in every town and village throughout the land, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told a ceremonial gathering of 1,400 police and fire-fighter officers at the weekend. The law creates a tough but just environment for protecting law-abiding people, Orbán said. He insisted that the force was being cleansed of corrupt officers and “we will do this in the future, too”.
