Pakistan’s Ambassador to Hungary, His Excellency Iftekhar Aziz, told guests at his country’s National Day celebration in the Marriott Hotel on 24 March of recent positive developments in bilateral relations. These included the successful visit of Hungary’s Deputy State Secretary for Security Policy, Szabolcs Takacs, a grant of 80 fully funded scholarships by the Hungarian government and the increasing role of Hungarian oil and gas company MOL in the energy sector of Pakistan.
Pakistan’s National Day is actually on 23 March and celebrates the passing of the Lahore Resolution in 1940 which led to independence from the British Raj in 1947. The Marriott function was attended by the diplomatic corps, Hungarian dignitaries including Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs Péter Wintermantel and members of the Pakistani community in Hungary. A documentary depicting Pakistan’s history, culture, and touristic and entrepreneurial potential was screened.
