Britannica International School has appointed Richard Vaughan as the new principal to succeed Ken Baines, who will retire at the end of July.
Vaughan is currently the primary head teacher in the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He previously taught in six different UK primary schools, working for four local authorities: Birmingham, Solihull, Staffordshire and the Wirral.
He was head teacher of two UK primary schools with British International School being his first overseas appointment. Vaughan will move to Budapest with his wife and two children this summer.
Vaughan was able to join Britannica International School, in District XII, recently for a week to introduce himself to primary and secondary and begin meeting parents, students and staff. School assemblies, classroom visits and an evening reception provided opportunities for the school community to interact with him and begin the familiarisation process.
At the end of his visit he said: “Following my interview for Britannica it has been a great privilege to return this week to formally meet and greet the school community. During my time here I have had the opportunity to engage with students, staff and parents.
“I feel very honoured at the reception that I have had and very much look forward to returning in August to work with you all. Lasting memories of this week have been the smiles and friendly greetings of the children in and around the corridors and classrooms.”
He continued: “This is clearly a community of learners who take a pride in the school they attend and are enjoying the richness of the experiences on offer. I will be sharing these encouraging observations with my own two children who are also looking forward to joining the school with me.
“It was equally delightful to attend the reception for parents and staff on the terrace by the club area. The truly amazing views across the beautiful city of Budapest… were something I will not forget. I thank everyone for their hospitality this week, and especially Mr. Ken Baines for his leadership of the school over the past four and a half years in which it has clearly grown from strength to strength.”
Vaughan said he looks forward to taking an already thriving learning community forward into its next phase of development.
