Nyugati railway station will close completely from June 22 to July 6 for routine track repairs and renovation, and wiring and signalling equipment testing. Nyugati, or Western, is one of the largest railway stations in Budapest and acts as a major transport hub that offers intercity trains to Szolnok, Debrecen and Zahony, as well as to Lviv and Kyiv in Ukraine. It rests at a major transport hub on the Grand Boulevard that connects passengers to several bus lines, line three of the metro, and the 24-hour trams #4 and #6. It is expected that the renovations to another major railway station, Déli pályaudvar, which has been closed since January due to a collapsed buttress blocking traffic from entering the terminal, will have been completed before the disruption at Nyugati begins. No cost estimates for the Nyugati renovations were provided.
