The Hungarian capital transforms into a huge festival territory from June 25 to 28. The second edition of the Budapest Essentials Festival has a fully new concept: concerts are organised all over the city in public buildings, parks, spas and bars.
The urban festival targets locals and tourists just the same. It allows both young and old to discover the best of Budapest in terms of music, culture and gastronomy, and all this in only four days.
A DJ stand in the Hungarian Railway Museum, pop music in the market hall, party in the Zwack Unicum factory – the specialties of Budapest Essential are definitively the unusual event venues.
However, the line-up itself also promises extra quality. Hungarian and international successful musicians and music producers will take care of entertainment all around the clock.
La Roux will flood Margaret Island with their electro-pop hits, which put them high in the charts, on June 25. Solomun will bring the fresh wind of the German house scene to Budapest, and Katy B and Cal Craig are going to make masses dance with hard techno beats.
Post-punk British band The Wombats will offer a contrast to all the above mentioned. Next up will be some head-bashing to underground rap by Dope D.O.D. or gentle gliding on the sound waves of Subfocus.
The list is long and it offers a broad choice of every direction of music.
What does Budapest mean for the art world? How does the unique atmosphere and lifestyle of the metropolis influence local painters and designers? These are the questions that are the topic of many Hungarian artworks, which will be exhibited for three days in the Cultural Centre of the Festival.
In addition the festival ticket allows its owner to enter many Budapest museums at a reduced price or even free. Some examples are the Ludwig, the National Gallery or the Vasarely.
During the festival there will be tours organised through the city with different mottos, and there will be a cinema evening in the swimming pool at Matiné Napozó in District XII, and the cultural offer does not leave anything to wish for either.
Furthermore, festival visitors receive 20% reduction in numerous restaurants and cafés throughout the city.
Budapest Essentials clearly wants to be more than just a music festival. It gives visitors the opportunity to discover something new, to appreciate the old and to get to know and love Budapest, one of the most pulsating and colourful cities of Europe.
