Look no further than the Vajdahunyad Castle Summer Music Festival 2015 in Budapest’s City Park. Situated among the silhouettes of the architecturally diverse building’s spires, this special event is treating both Budapesters and visitors to twice-weekly concerts of classical, swing, klezmer (Jewish) and traditional Hungarian Gypsy music.
The castle itself is a sight to behold – and one of the favourite locales of the locals. Built just over 100 years ago in recognition of the country’s 1000th anniversary, its distinctive look represents the history of Hungarian architectural styles – Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque and Renaissance.
Situated near the soothing Széchenyi spas, it is the perfect cap to a stroll through the idyllic Városliget Park, where you can see historic Budapest Zoo or hop on the carousel or Ferris wheel at Budapest Amusement Park.
Every Monday and Thursday at 8.30pm until August 3, audiences can hear some of the country’s most impressive musical assemblies, such as Edina Mókus Szirtes and her Orchestra (July 20), the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra (July 23), Budapest Strings (July 27), the 100-Member Gypsy Orchestra (July 30) and Budapest Bar (August 3).
Tickets are a reasonable HUF 2900-5500 but arrive early because there are no seat reservations. The festival’s homepage is http://www.vajdahunyad.hu/english.asp.
