Establishing an independent state secretariat for tax affairs is “being mulled over” at the Ministry of National Economy, its minister, Mihály Varga, has said. Responding to a query, Varga said that if the idea is approved he would make a proposal to the prime minister. He noted that all European countries have tax state secretariats operating independently within ministries. Varga gave an evasive answer when asked about press speculation that state secretary András Tállai – the tax expert of the governing party – is likely to head such a state secretariat.
