Budapest Airport will host its successful airport charity race for runners, unique in Europe, on Saturday, September 3. This fourth Runway Run is expecting to welcome about 1000 runners again on Ferenc Liszt International Airport’s runway 1.
Airport management says participants will be from all over the world and they will run five or 10 kilometres on the runway. Their entry fees will benefit the Hungarian SUHANJ! Foundation supporting sports activities of handicapped children and their families, and the British Anthony Nolan charity supporting leukemia patients by searching for bone-marrow donors.
Traditional participants are from aviation and commerce sectors, with representatives of embassies and foreign chambers of commerce in Budapest plus airport authorities such as the police, Customs, the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting service, Counter-Terrorism Centre and Civil Aviation Authority.
The chief sponsor of Runway Run is again European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. For any readers wondering, landings and takeoffs will be suspended during the event.
