German carmaker Daimler will invest HUF 185 billion at its base in Kecskemét to build a new car body plant and improve existing facilities, MercedesBenz Manufacturing Hungary has announced. Construction work is set to be finished by 2018. Daimler will spend around HUF 80 billion on the 99,000-square-metre plant. As part of the larger investment project, Daimler will buy efficient and innovative machinery for existing plants at the base to improve and expand production capacity. Daimler opened the EUR 1 billion Kecskemét plant in spring 2012. It started making compact B-class models then added the CLA coupe in 2013 and the CLA Shooting Brake in 2015. MercedesBenz Manufacturing Hungary employs almost 4000 workers now and relies on 32 local suppliers.
