Minister Overseeing the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár should quit in light of his comments casting doubt on Hungary’s future membership of the European Union, the opposition Dialogue for Hungary and Liberal parties have said. Lázár had told a government news briefing that his support for Hungary’s EU membership was no longer full-hearted following the British vote to leave the bloc. The Liberals said a government member who does not see Hungary’s future in the EU should not be in charge of distributing EU funds. Hungary had access to 9200 billion forints of EU funding in 2007-2013 and now can tap 12,000 billion forints until 2020, the party noted. Dialogue for Hungary spokesman Bence Tordai said it was Lázár “and his partners in crime” who should “leave the EU and Hungary”.
