Yossi Amrani, Israel’s new ambassador to Hungary, has presented his credentials to President János Áder and says he will seek to convey his country’s message of co-operation to the Hungarian people and their leaders. Co-operation is to be pursued at every level, Amrani said, and he would work to promote academic and scientific exchange programmes and strengthen business co-operation to the benefit of both countries. Hungary and Israel are linked through history and Hungary’s Jewish heritage, as well as the commitment of both countries towards peace, security, stability and welfare in their regions and in the world, the diplomat said. Referring to the Holocaust, Amrani said the tragedy must always be remembered and “history should serve us as a moral and political compass rather than being a barrier”. Israel and Hungary were excellent members of the international community and shared strategic positions concerning global issues.
