from the loss-making Budapest Transport Company (BKV) are to begin discussions
in August on installing electronic ticket gates on metro stations and the HÉV
suburban railway. Initial estimates put the cost of the system, which BKV hopes
to put into operation in 2009, at HUF 15 billion (EUR 64.68 million). Budapest
City Council, which owns BKV and will have to subsidise the project, will
discuss the matter at a later date, spokesman Krisztián Nyári said last week.
